Are you one of those who also have a very hard time getting ready for a run if you do not have music in your ears?
If you are, then you can enjoy that music can help in other ways than just the motivation to run. Research shows that if you run to music, it actually has a beneficial effect on one's endurance.
- It is scientifically proven that when you run with music in your ears, it doesn't feel so hard as it might otherwise do, and thus you can run faster, "says Morten Zacho who is MSc in physical education and a training expert.
This includes the British scientist, Professor Costas Karageorghis, from Brunel University who has identified the bliss of listening to music during a race.
According to his research music can boost your endurance by as much as 20 percent, and he believes that the correct running speed is around 120-150 BPM (beats per. minute) if you want optimum effect of your running exercise.
But while the research speaks for itself, Morten Zacho does not think that you should always run to music.
- It removes some of the experience of running - especially if running in a beautiful place. And not everybody needs music to run at full speed, he says.
He says that for ordinary joggers it doesn't matter what kind of music you listen to when you are training. As long as it's music that you like.
