Guy Tais explore the South Bund

On Tuesday Mat 24 a group of us met at the Puxi and Pudong Ferry docks and set out for an exploratory cultural tour of the new “Cool Docks” area and the South Bund. We explored the Waterhouse Hotel that faced the new sandy beach next to the lovely blue Huangpu river and taste tested two of the restaurants in the Cool Docks complex – and Indian establishment and a burger place – both served good food. The roof bar of the Waterhouse hotel was not open but we did get a private tour of the place – definitely a bar to consider on a cool spring/summer (ha) night though I do think it might be pricey.
A couple of us then explored the back streets of the South Bund walking towards the fabric market. This is the real Shanghai which I’m afraid looks like it will be demolished and replaced by high rises within the next few years.
All in all, we had a great time given that the weather cooperated and it was one beautiful day to sit outside and enjoy good company, good food and a few beers. I encourage all Guy Tais to let the group know if you are planning any outings – I am sure there are those of us who’d love to join you and make an afternoon of it.
